Self-Pay Pricing Information
Dr. Weidner's office provides transparent, self-pay pricing for hip and knee replacement surgery. Because costs vary based on the specific procedure, and individual patient needs, exact pricing is provided during your consultation and scheduling.
When comparing costs, keep in mind that self-pay pricing at an ambulatory surgery center is often significantly less than the same procedure at a hospital.
Cost Estimates:
1) The initial consultation requires a $250 fee. This fee will be retained if no surgery ends up being scheduled. If we need to take new xrays of the joint an xray fee will need to be paid as well (~$150). Patients not local can have initial consultation online.
2) Surgery will be at Stone Springs Ambulatory Surgery Center. Patients must be candidates for outpatient surgery and not require a stay in the hospital.
3) Total cost for outpatient hip or knee replacement please email pworthocao@gmail.com. This fee includes surgical site fees (facility fees), surgeon's fees, anesthesia fees including nerve blocks to help with post-op pain, implant fees, use of MAKO robot (primarily used for knee replacements). Initial $250 consult fee can go towards the total fee if surgery is scheduled.
Call 703-393-1667 to speak with our team about current self-pay pricing for your specific procedure.
Prices do NOT include:
Diagnostics such as x-rays before surgery will incur a separate fee
Patients will need preop physical examination with primary care doctor as well as routine blood work, these costs are extra
Any post-operative physical therapy needed (more commonly needed for knee replacement patients)
Travel/lodging
Any costs for post-operative complications
Post-op prescription medications, walkers/canes or other medical equipment

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the quality of care the same for self-pay patients?
A: Absolutely. Self-pay patients receive identical surgical care, the same implants, and the same post-operative support as all other patients. Your insurance status has no bearing on the quality of your surgical experience with Dr. Weidner.
Q: Can international patients have surgery with Dr. Weidner?
A: Yes. Dr. Weidner welcomes patients from outside the United States such as Canada who are seeking world-class joint replacement surgery. Our team can help coordinate your care including pre-operative imaging requirements and post-operative follow-up planning. Come visit the beautiful Washington D.C. area!
Q: How does self-pay pricing compare to using insurance?
A: We encourage patients to compare their expected out-of-pocket costs under their plan with our self-pay quote. Self insured employers may want to encourage their employees to use this option, the total costs to the health plan will be substantially less than paying for employees to have joint replacement at a hospital.
Q: Are payment plans available?
A: Please call our office at 703-393-1667 to discuss payment options. Our team will work with you to find a payment approach that fits your situation.
Q: Can employers that pay for their employees health insurance direct contract with Dr. Weidner?
A: Yes, absolutely. This is one of the best uses for self-pay joint replacement surgery. Joint replacements done at a hospital can easily cost 2x or more the costs quoted here. Please reach out to us to discuss options if you want to try to steer your healthy patients away from having surgery at a hospital or a surgery center where the pricing is unknown until afterwards.
Q: How quickly can self-pay surgery be scheduled?
A: One of the key advantages of self-pay is faster scheduling. Without insurance pre-authorization requirements, self-pay patients are often able to proceed from consultation to surgery significantly faster than insured patients navigating authorization timelines.
Q: What procedures are available on a self-pay basis?
A: All of Dr. Weidner's surgical procedures are available on a self-pay basis including anterior total hip replacement, outpatient hip replacement, MAKO robotic total and partial knee replacement, and quad-sparing knee replacement.
